Just after 5:00 pm on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, RCMP received a call to 911 from an 18-year-old female who had been swept away from the shore of Delta Beach on Lake Manitoba on an inflatable raft.
The teen told police she and two friends, an 18-year-old female and a 17-year-old female, had been on the raft when it began drifting out into the lake. Both friends jumped off the raft and began to swim to shore. The caller remained on the raft.
RCMP responded to the lake with boat and were told once they arrived on scene that a 52-year-old woman had swam out and brought the 18-year-old friend to shore. She then returned to the lake and stayed with the 17-year-old female until police arrived in the boat. After picking up the pair in the water officers then rescued the caller on the raft.
Police say that the 17-year-old female was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
RCMP praised the “incredible efforts” by the 52-year-old woman in the rescue of the teens.
