RCMP in Portage la Prairie are praising the effort of one of their own after a woman was attacked by three masked men on Sunday, September 10, 2017.
It happened around 4:30 am in front of a home on Oak Bay in Portage.
Police received a report of the attack and arrived within minutes. The victim told officers that one of the suspects had a rifle and that they had ran from the area before police arrived with her backpack.
Officers called in the k-9 unit to help. Ozzy and his human partner Corporal Chornomydz began tracking the suspects after Ozzy located the track.
Leading his partner to a backyard on Poplar Bay, Ozzy indicated that the suspects were inside an unlocked shed. As Ozzy’s human counterparts opened the shed they found all three suspects inside.
Three men in their 20s were arrested and held in custody.
Joshua Catcheway, 23, Maurice Merrick, 25 and Stewart Young, 26 are facing assault with a weapon and robbery with a firearm, possess weapon dangerous to the public, and disguise with Intent for their alleged involvement.
