Manitoba’s Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) has started an investigation into an RCMP officer for uttering threats.
According to the IIU an incident occurred on June 17, 2023, around 4:00 pm in the area of Marin Avenue and Watt Street. A male driver was travelling with his family when he saw a driver break behind him. The driver of the other vehicle then rolled down his window and allegedly began uttering threats and making racial comments. The vehicle the left the area.
A report was made to Winnipeg police and the vehicle’s registered owner was identified as an RCMP officer. The officer was off-duty at the time of the incident.
Both the Winnipeg Police Service and the RCMP notified the IIU of the incident. The civilian director of the IIU determined it was in the public interest for the IIU to conduct the investigation.
