Swan River RCMP say that one of their officers was injured during the arrest of a 43-year-old male on July 22, 2021.
According to police, the officer was investigating a ‘suspicious male’ report in a back lane in the community. As police approached the man they could see he was armed with a sword. When ordered to drop the weapon the male complied but then took off running when officers told him he was under arrest. Police secured the sword and chased the suspect on foot.
Officers soon caught the suspect and while they were placing him under arrest an officer suffered a broken bone.
The suspect from Wuskwi Sipihk First Nation was taken to hospital after complaining of a medical issue that was not related to his arrest. He was treated and released from hospital. Police have charged him for his alleged involvement with Carry a Concealed Weapon and Resist Arrest.
The investigation is continuing.
