RCMP officer arrested on assault charges

A Manitoba RCMP officer is facing assault charges after incidents that occurred in 2017 and 2018.

Police say that on December 11, 2018, the Roblin RCMP Detachment Commander was told from a third party about an alleged assault on an adult female from eastern Saskatchewan. The third party claimed the alleged offender was stationed at the Roblin detachment.

RCMP began an immediate investigation into the allegations and on June 6, 2019 the officer was arrested. Formal charges were laid today, June 13, 2019 and include Assault, Assault with a Weapon, and Impaired Driving.

Constable Jason Kitzel will appear in court on July 18, 2019 for his alleged involvement. He has been a member of the RCMP for the past 12 years and is currently suspended with pay pending the outcome of the case.

Although Manitoba’s Independent Investigation Unit was notified they decided allow the RCMP to investigate the matter and not assert jurisdiction.
