RCMP officer charged with sexual assault

Following an extensive investigation stemming from a February 2019 incident a Manitoba RCMP officer is facing charges of sexual assault.

According to the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) of Manitoba they began an investigation into an allegation of sexual assault on March 15, 2019 after Winnipeg Police informed the RCMP that one of their members was under investigation. The RCMP then informed the IIU. The IIU took over the investigation.

Civilian Director Zane Tessler has determined that there are reasonable and probable grounds to believe a criminal offence occurred.

The IIU did not indicate if the offence is alleged to have happened while the officer was on or off-duty.

RCMP Constable Peter Mangera has been charged with one count of Sexual Assault for his alleged involvement. He will appear in Provincial Court in Winnipeg on August 7, 2019.
