RCMP constable Laurie Krulicki has been charged for her alleged involvement with failure to drive with due regard to safety, according to the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU).
On August 1, 2023, the officer was attempting to complete a traffic stop when the vehicle drove away. A pursuit ensued with speeds reaching 200 kilometres per hour. As the fleeing vehicle sped eastbound on Inkster Boulevard it collided with another vehicle at Keewatin Street. The driver of the fleeing vehicle and the two occupants of the other vehicle were taken to hospital. As a result of the serious injuries sustained, the IIU was mandated to investigate.
The investigation determined that the officer did not make any attempt to mitigate the inherent risks of the pursuit, thus failing to comply with police policy, resulted in her not complying with Sec. 106(4) of the Highway Traffic Act.
