RCMP officer assaulted in Norway House during an arrest.

On Saturday August 8, 2020, police were investigating the report of an impaired driver.

Officers quickly located the vehicle and watched as it drove dangerously within the community. The vehicle came to a stop when it turned onto a dead end road. Four of the five occupants bolted into the woods. The driver remained with the vehicle say police.

As the 48-year-old male was being placed under arrest he grabbed the officers vest and pulled her to the ground. He then grabbed the mic from the radio in an attempt to stop the officer from calling for backup.

First Nation Safety officers were driving by the scene and stopped to help the officer gain control of the suspect.

The male was cuffed and placed into the police cruiser but continued to utter threats towards the officers.

The officer, one of the First Nation Safety officers and the suspect sustained minor injuries during the incident.

The suspect is facing charges for his alleged involvement of Assaulting a Police Officer, Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle, Refusing to Provide a Breath Sample, Uttering Threats and Mischief Under $5000.

RCMP continue to investigate.
