A 37-year-old male in breach of court-imposed conditions that he not have any contact with a specific person was arrested after police witnessed the violation.
As officers attempted to place the male in custody he ran from them. Officers pursued the suspect and captured him a short distance away. The male remained combative and continued to resit arrest. During the arrest one officer was assaulted by the male causing minor injuries, according to police.
Once back at the detachment the suspect continued belligerent and violent behaviour until officers were able to get him into a cell.
Michael Bernardin from Portage la Prairie has been charged for his alleged involvement with three counts of Resisting Arrest, Assaulting a Police Officer, Breaking and Entering and two counts of Fail to Comply with an Undertaking.
