RCMP officer assaulted during a traffic stop in Niverville

An RCMP officer conducting a traffic stop in the town of Niverville was threatened and assaulted by the driver that had been pulled over.

Police say that on April 7, 2022, the officer conducted the traffic stop on 6th Avenue South around 2:00 pm. As the officer approached the vehicle the adult male driver became aggressive and made threats towards the officer.

The male was told that he was under arrest for uttering threats and when the officer attempted to place the man in custody the suspect resisted and began fighting the officer. The altercation moved into the roadway. A passerby stopped and helped the officer gain control of the suspect.

Lyall James Hudson, 51 of Niverville, was charged for his alleged involvement with Assault on a Police Officer, Uttering Threats and Resisting Arrest.

The officer received minor injuries during the incident.
