RCMP make arrests in the January 1, 2022, assault that resulted the death of an inmate at Stony Mountain Institution.
The victim had been found unresponsive in his cell and transported to hospital. The 36-year-old inmate died from his injuries on February 7, 2022.
RCMP arrested three individuals in March and two more on April 1.
- Michael Simard, 36-years-old, from Ontario, has been charged for his alleged involvement with Accessory after the fact to Aggravated Assault.
- Brendin Swanson, 36-years-old, from Oakbank, Manitoba, has been charged for his alleged involvement with Accessory after the fact to Aggravated Assault
- Tyler Boily, 35-years-old, from Thunder Bay, Ontario, has been charged for his alleged involvement with Party to the offence of Second Degree Murder.
- Xavier Rattie, 24-years-old, from St. Malo, Manitoba, has been charged for his alleged involvement with Second Degree Murder.
- Brandon Ferguson, 24-years-old, from Winnipeg, Manitoba, has been charged for his alleged involvement with Second Degree Murder.
RCMP are continuing to investigate the homicide.
