RCMP looking for witnesses in an attempted murder investigation

Just after midnight on July 13, 2022, RCMP in Thompson responded to an assault that was in progress on Churchill Drive in the community.

As officers arrived they witnessed a male violently attack a female and an injured male nearby. As the suspect spotted officers he took off foot with officers hot on his heels. The suspect was taken into custody moments later.

Police say that the male suspect had first assaulted a 37-year-old male then turned on the 44-year-old female. Officers who witness the attack on the female noted how extremely violent the assault was. Both victims were taken to hospital with severe injuries.

18-year-old Jamie Captain from Thompson was charged for his alleged involvement with Attempt Murder, Aggravated Assault, Assault Causing Bodily Harm, two counts of Resist a Peace Officer and Assault While Choking. Police say that Captain may also face additional charges.

Captain remains in custody.
