RCMP have identified the two men allegedly involved in an armed break and enter on Saturday, February 8, 2020, in Petersfield.
Just before 1:30 pm the two suspects allegedly forced their way into a home while the homeowner was inside. The homeowner called neighbours who came over but they were confronted by the two suspects when they arrived. One of the suspects pointed a gun at a vehicle.
The suspects then left the area before police arrived on a waiting snowmobile.
The suspects were captured later in the day at a Highway 8 home.
Police say that on further investigation they have linked the two men to other break-ins in the area including one on January 23rd in St. Andrews as well as a second Petersfield break-in on February 8th.
43-year-old Trevor Kyle Klatt from Winnipeg has been charged with a number of offences for his alleged involvement including:
- Possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon when knowing possession unauthorized
- Weapons possession contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization
- Careless use of a firearm
- Breaking, entering and committing (x 3)
- Breaking and entering with intent (x 2)
- Personating a peace officer
- Operation while prohibited
- Theft of other motor vehicle
- Using a firearm in the commission of an offence
- Pointing a firearm
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
The second suspect has been identified as 23-year-old David J. Watts also from Winnipeg. He has been charged for his alleged involvement with:
- Breaking, entering and committing (x 3)
- Breaking and entering with intent (x 2)
- Operation while prohibited
- Theft of other motor vehicle
- Personating a peace officer
Both men were detained in custody.
Investigators also noted that the firearm that was used in the break-in was a modified to use .22 calibre ammunition. The handgun was loaded at the time officers seized it.
The investigation continues.
