On Thursday, November 23, 2017, RCMP dog ‘ENZO’ successfully located two hunters, a 12-year-old boy and his father who were lost in the woods northeast of Marchand.
Police say that after being lost for several hours the hunters called RCMP in Steinbach around 4:00 pm asking for help.

Officers responded and located the hunter’s vehicle. They called in Police Dog ‘Enzo’ and his human handler to find the lost father and son. It took ‘Enzo’ three hours to find the missing pair and two more hours to lead the hunters and the rescue party out of the dense bush.

The RCMP say the hunters were lucky that they had the foresight to bring a fully charged cell phone with them. No one was injured and the hunters now have a tail to tell of their adventure and rescue.
As a reminder police say that if you are heading into the wilderness it is important to tell someone where you are starting from and when you expect to return. You should always dress for the elements and make sure you have the ability to start a fire by bringing the proper gear.
If you do get lost and call for help stay put. If you stay in the location you call from rescuers have a better chance of finding you. And like the two hunters that Enzo located always bring a fully charged cell phone even if you don’t think you will get reception.
