RCMP are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened on Saturday afternoon, July 2, 2022, in the community of Shamattawa.
Around 1:00 pm police received a report that an armed male had been seen walking in the community.
Officers began to search for the suspect and while patrolling heard several gunshots. The male was located outside a residence.
In a media statement RCMP say “An interaction occurred between the suspect and officers which resulted in shots being fired.”
the 22-year-old suspect suffered serious injuries and was taken to the nursing station. None of the officers involved were injured during the incident.
As this was a police-involved shooting the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba has been notified.
RCMP continue to investigate.
