RCMP are investigating two unrelated fatal collisions that happened minutes apart east of Winnipeg on Wednesday evening, December 1, 2021.
At 7:15 pm officers were called to a collision on Highway 44 in the RM of Brokenhead.
Police say that the 61-year-old driver of a pickup truck was travelling on the highway when a sofa he was transporting fell off the truck. As the driver was trying to remove the couch from the roadway he was hit by a vehicle being driven by a 23-year-old male.
The senior driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was not injured.
Investigators say that alcohol was not involved in the collision.
Officers from the Oakbank detachment were called to the scene of a collision between a vehicle and a cyclist at approximately 7:20 pm on Highway 12 near Highway 15.
Police say a vehicle being driven by a 41-year-old female was travelling on Highway 12 when she collided with a 77-year-old male cyclist from Anola. The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
Alcohol was not a factor in the collision.
RCMP are investigating both collision. Police say dark road conditions are considered a factor in both collisions.
