RCMP from Steinbach are investigating the cause of a collision that claimed the life of a 53-year-old man in the RM of Reynolds.
Police say that they began looking into the case after receiving information from the office of the Chief Medical Examiner about the collision that had happened on Saturday mArch 21, 2020.
Police say that they had not been informed of the collision prior to notification from medical examiner officials.
Police say that their initial investigation indicates that around 6:00 pm the victim and a 46-year-old female were in a side by side ATV on Trail 19 near Marchand when the vehicle suddenly swerved off the trail and came to a stop.
Police say that at the time of the collision the trail was in rough condition due to melting conditions.
The victim was hit by a large branch and suffered serious life-threatening injuries. Several other riders in the group stopped to help and called 911 for assistance.
STARS Air Ambulance was called to the scene and airlifted the male victim to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner continue to investigate.
