RCMP identify the family found dead near the Canada-US border.

RCMP have identified the four people who were found dead near the Canada-US border on January 19, 2022.

Police say that all four victims died from exposure and are Indian nationals. They have been identified as:

  • Jagdishkumar PATEL, a 39-year-old male;
  • Vaishaliben PATEL, a 37-year-old female;
  • Vihangi PATEL, an 11-year-old female; and
  • Dharmik PATEL, a 3-year-old male.

Investigators say that the family arrived in Canada on January 12, 2022. After landing in Toronto they made their way to Emerson on January 18.

Police say that the information that investigators were able to uncover indicates that this is a case of human smuggling.

Police say that the family moved around Canada for a period of time and are looking to speak to anyone who may have had encounters with them.
