RCMP homes in Chemawawin damaged by vandals

RCMP in Chemawawin have charged three females after a number of RCMP and government-owned homes were damaged in the community on June 13, 2022.

Police say that surveillance video showed three female suspects throwing rocks through several windows of homes and parked vehicles. The trio caused significant damage according to investigators.

Officers identified the three vandals and arrested them later the same night.

18-year-old Lavern Chartrand and two 14-year-old females are facing five counts of Mischief. Chartrand is also facing five counts of Fail to Comply. One of the 14-year-old females also was charged with a single count of fail to comply.

Police say that four days later, around 11:15 pm they responded to a house fire at the same location. Police were able to extinguish the fire and the Chemawawin Fire Department responded to ensure the fire was completely out.

No injuries were reported in the fire.

Police say that this is not the first incident over the past year of mischief and arson to the homes.
