RCMP find a deceased man in the median of the Trans-Canada Highway

On Monday, February 19, 2024, RCMP from Portage la Prairie responded to the report of a man laying in the median of the Trans-Canada Highway in the RM of Portage la Prairie.

When officers arrived on the scene they confirmed that the 59-year-old man from Long Plain First Nation was dead.

Police say that debris from a vehicle at the scene was strewn across the highway which indicated that the male was a victim of hit and run. The cause of death will be confirmed by an autopsy.

The debris seized by officers belongs to a gloss black Toyota which will have significant damage to the driver side mirror and front fender. Police say that the evidence indicates that the victim was walking on the westbound roadway.
