Oakbank RCMP had received a report of a man with firearms uttering threats to his family and police. The man barricaded himself in his home just east of Anola, about 40 km east of Winnipeg. He was alone in the home.

Police, including the RCMP Emergency Response Team set up outside his home and secured the area.

Witnesses said they saw a large police presence including SWAT trucks and support vehicles. Officers could be seen dressed in full camouflage gear carrying military style weapons.

When police stormed the home on Saturday January 7, 2017 they located the body of the 45 year old male. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The investigation has been turned over to the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba.
