Last fall News 4 told you about a Winnipeg Police officer who had been arrested by Headingley RCMP for impaired driving. At the time of his arrest, the officer was taken to the RCMP detachment but refused to supply a breath sample.
The officer was off-duty at the time of his arrest. RCMP say they found the 41-year-old officer seated behind the wheel of a car parked on the shoulder of the Trans Canada Highway just west of Headingley. He was showing signs of intoxication when RCMP approached him.
The arrest happened on November 20, 2017.
On January 10, 2018 RCMP formally laid charges against the WPS officer.
Leslie McRae has been charged for his alleged involvement with Refuse to Provide a Breath Sample and Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle while Impaired.

A few days after his arrest another WPS officer was arrested by Winnipeg Police in West Kildonan for impaired driving. That officer also refused to provide a breath sample to police.
Shortly after the second arrest Winnipeg Police Chief Danny Smyth spoke out about the arrest of the two officers and said both officers were placed on administrative leave.
