RCMP charge driver involved in a serious fatal collision

RCMP have charged a 69-year-old female after she allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign on Road 31E at Highway 303 in the RM of Hanover and hit a westbound minivan which in turn hit an eastbound SUV killing the passenger.

Police say when that arrived on the scene around 3:15 pm on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, multiple people were being treated and transported to hospital.

Investigators say the people in the minivan, a 64-year-old female driver and six children between the ages of 8 and 12 were taken to hospital in Winnipeg with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the SUV, a 59-year-old female, was taken to hospital in critical condition. The 85-year-old male passenger was declared dead at the scene.

The 69-year-old driver that allegedly failed to stop at the stop sign was not physically injured. She was arrested at the scene and charged for her alleged involvement with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm.

She was released from custody pending a court date.

RCMP continue to investigate.
