RCMP arrested two fugitives from the United States after they ran the border crossing while trying to flee North Dakota police.
It began on Friday February 28, 2020 when police in the U.S. tried to make a traffic stop on a vehicle. The vehicle refused to pull over and eventually a spike belt was used unsuccessfully.
As the pickup truck approached the Canadian border at Dunseith (Boissevain) in south-western Manitoba agents from Canada Border Services Agency also tried to stop it without any luck.
The vehicle ran the border evading capture.
Both North Dakota law enforcement and Canada Border Services Agency notified RCMP of the border breach.
A search of the area located the suspect vehicle in the early morning hours on Saturday February 29, 2020 on Highway 10 about 10 kilometres north of the international border.
Police found an adult male aged 35 and a 34-year-old female inside the vehicle and took both into custody without incident.
Police learned later that the vehicle had been stolen from Minnesota.
RCMP are continuing to investigate in cooperation with American law enforcement and the Canada Border Services Agency.
