RCMP capture suspect as he tried to flee in stolen vehicles

A 29-year-old man from the RM of Portage la Prairie is in custody after he attempted to flee from police in two different stolen vehicles.

On September 16, 2022, RCMP was called by a concerned citizen who was following a suspected stolen vehicle on Road 36 West in the RM of Portage la Prairie around 7:10 am. Although the person following lost sight of the vehicle officers patrolling in the area located it and confirmed it was stolen. A traffic stop was initiated but the driver refused to stop and in an effort to flee attempted to ram a police patrol unit.

Police say that the driver ultimately got stuck on Road 30 West but ran from the vehicle. He then stole a second vehicle and fled the area.

Officers located the second stolen vehicle on Highway 2 near Highway 13 but the suspect continued to flee from them. The driver then got stuck in a ditch but was quickly surrounded by police vehicles. Although he was able to get the stolen vehicle free and hit a police vehicle in the process he was arrested.

During the incident, one officer was injured. He was treated in hospital then released.

Curtis Livingstone has been charged for his alleged involvement with two counts of Assault on Police Officer with a Weapon, Flight from Police Officer, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Theft, Obstruction and two counts of Mischief.
