Five youth made it to freedom for a short time Friday evening, May 29, 2020, after breaking out of Agassiz Youth Centre in Portage la Prairie.
Around 6:30 pm six youth attempted to crawl under a perimeter fence surrounding the prison. Five made their escape but the sixth was caught by corrections officers before he could flee.
RCMP contained the area and used a drone and members of the Police Dog Services Unit to quickly track down the youth.
Five males between 15 and 18 have been returned to the jail and charged with Escape Lawful Custody and Prison Breach for their alleged involvement.
RCMP continue to investigate.
