RCMP in Portage La Praire have arrested two male suspects in connection to two armed robberies in the community on Friday night, October 5, 2018.

The suspects are accused of robbing two people around 8:30 pm as they were walking home from work. Police say that the suspects approached the two victims and held them at knifepoint while they stole various items including a backpack, cell phone, debit card and money.

While officers were investigating that incident a second armed robbery report came in from that area. Officers responded and found the suspects. A search located most of the stolen items.

Officers also obtained a search warrant for a home on 2nd Street NW where they found the stolen backpack from the first robbery.

Christian Meeches, 20, from Long Plain First Nation and Harlen Hart, 20, from Winnipeg are facing several robbery, weapons and other charges for their alleged involvement.

Both suspects remain in custody.

RCMP are continuing to investigate.
