Manitoba RCMP has released the numbers for the first nine days of their Holiday Checkstop program.
Between December 1 and December 9, 2018 officers set up 59 checkstops across the province and inspected close to 2500 vehicles.
RCMP say that they charged 25 people with driving while impaired. Of those 23 were arrested on alcohol-related charges and 2 for impaired by drugs. One of those individuals was more than three and a half times above the legal limit with a blood alcohol of .27. In Manitoba, the legal limit is .o8.
Police also charge three people who refused to take the test.
A number of people also had their licences immediately suspended roadside. RCMP say that eight tiered administrative roadside suspensions were handed out.
Improperly storing alcohol or cannabis in a vehicle resulted in charges for nine people while ten more were charged for using a hand-held electronic device while driving.
Police also ticketed four people for not wearing a seatbelt.
Police services across the province will be conducting Checkstops throughout the holiday season.
