The collision happened around 1:35 pm in near white-out conditions on Highway 10 near Brandon. Investigators say that the police unit and a southbound semi were approaching each other head-on in the swirling snow when both drivers suddenly became aware of each other. Although both drivers took evasive action to avoid a head-on collision the vehicles did collide and both ended up in the ditch on opposite sides of the highway.

Neither driver suffered any injuries and there was no one else in either vehicle.

RCMP continue to investigate but they have notified the Independent Investigation Unit who will be monitoring the investigation.
