
The group that runs the Hudson Bay Railway has just received a major cash infusion from the governments of Canada and Manitoba.
Arctic Gateway Group, a partnership between 41 First Nation and Bayline communities have been promised up to $147.6 million over the next two years to support upgrades, operation and maintenance of the railway.
Hudson Bay railway is the only all-weather link for freight and passengers to access their communities.
“The Hudson Bay Railway is an engine for economic development, job growth and tourism opportunities, and our government is proud to support this vital transportation network connecting people and businesses in northern Manitoba with the goods and supplies they need to live, work and invest in their communities,” said Premier Heather Stefanson.
The federal government will provide up to an additional $60 million on top of what it already provides Arctic Gateway Group. Manitoba has committed $73.8 million in funding.
