Raids uncover illegal cigarettes, drugs and guns

RCMP in Steinbach along with members of the Manitoba East District Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team executed a number of Controlled Dug and Substances Act warrants near Richer, Manitoba and in Winnipeg simultaneously on Thursday February 11, 2021.

The raids resulted in the seizure of more than 729,000 illegal cigarettes, 15 grams of psilocybin, 74 grams of cocaine, 300 Percocet tablets, 220 hydromorphine tablets, as well as two improperly stored firearms and items indicative of drug trafficking.

“A solid investigation lead to RCMP teams executing these warrants,” said S/Sgt Harold Laninga, Steinbach RCMP Detachment Commander. “We have disrupted this operation and, at the end of the day, stopped these illegal items from being distributed to the public.”

A 62-year-old female and a 39-year-old male were arrested for their alleged involvement and are facing charges of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine, Cigarette Smuggling, and firearms offences.

Police say the male is also facing charges for Fail to Comply.

Both accused were detained in custody.

RCMP continue to investigate.
