Union gives 72 hour strike notice

If you were hoping to send that package or documents via Purolator you can’t. The Canadian based shipping company announced today that they will not be accepting shipments ” to ensure the integrity of our customers’ shipments”.

Purolator has been in negotiations with Teamsters Canada the trade union that represents the bulk of the organization’s employees.  According to a statement from the union, employees rejected the latest contract proposal from the company on Sunday.

“Purolator’s final offer was rejected by members. On March 26, as a result of this rejection, the union served a 72-hour notice of strike action to the company. The strike deadline is therefore scheduled for 4:30 pm on Wednesday, March 29,” said the statementfrom the Teamsters.

Purolator says it is hopeful an agreement can be reached but in the meantime has posted notice on the corporate website and has stopped receiving shipments as of today.

The statement reads:

Please be advised that effective March 28, 2017 Purolator is taking the step of ceasing to accept shipments to ensure the integrity of our customers’ shipments should a labour disruption occur.

Purolator will make our best effort to deliver shipments currently in our network, however extended ground shipments may experience a delay.

We remain optimistic regarding the ongoing contract negotiations between Purolator and the Teamsters, and as such Purolator management is actively working through plans to resume full service as quickly as possible, once an agreement has been reached.

We will continue to update customers on the status of our services as information becomes available.
