Public invited to annual New Year’s Levee

If you are looking for a family-friendly event to go to on New Year’s Day you should think about attending the annual New Year’s Levee at the Manitoba Legislature Building.

The traditional event is put on by the Lieutenant-Governor and runs between 2:30 and 4:00 pm on January 1, 2019.

Lt-Gov. Janice Filmon and her husband Gary, former premier of Manitoba, will meet guests in the historic Blue Room.

“We look forward to greeting our fellow Manitobans on the first day of 2019, and have a chance to extend our best wishes for a year of good health and abundant happiness,” said Lt.-Gov. Filmon.

Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy complimentary sleigh rides around the Legislature if the weather cooperates and enjoy musical entertainment from the Winnipeg Police Service Choir, The Winnipeg Boys Choir and the Ring Out Handbell Quartet. Also on hand will be Magician Evan Morgan performing in the Rotunda.

For those who want to get their history on members from the Manitoba Living History Society and the United Empire Loyalists Association will be in period costumes around the building.

Light refreshments will be served to the crowd by Scouts and Girl Guides.

Collection bins will be in the front lobby of the building for those who wish to donate canned and non-perishable food to Winnipeg Harvest.
