Police are warning the public after six bars of counterfeit gold were sold to a number of pawn shops and gold buyers in the city. Similar suspicious transactions are also being investigated in other Canadian cities where gold one ounce counterfeit bars were also sold.
In Winnipeg, the bars were exchanged for an amount just under $5,000. The bars were bearing either Perth Mint or PAMP(Produits Artistiques Métaux Précieux Switzerland) stamps.
Police say the quality of the forgeries are very high and are cautioning anyone who is considering buying gold bars to take extra steps to ensure they are authentic.
