Manitoba’s Hydrologic Forecast Centre has issues a public warning about hazardous ice conditions on rivers, lakes, drainage ditches and retention ponds across the province.
Milder conditions as Spring begins is seeing melting on all bodies of water and with it the thinning of ice.
The province says that even though ice may look safe it may be thin and unable to support people or vehicles.
The forecast centre advises to no venture onto any body of water including rivers and lakes due to the danger of falling through. They also advise that children and pets should also not be allowed on the ice.
