Province warns COVID-19 enforcement in full force during Black Friday

The Manitoba government issued a warning on Friday morning, November 17, 2020, that “personnel empowered to enforce public health orders will be out in full force on Black Friday.”

Black Friday is typically one of the largest shopping days of the year with people lining up for hours in an effort to get deals on electronics and other products.

This year most of the items that appeal to Black Friday shoppers have been declared non-essential and stores can only sell them online or through pre-order with curb side pickup or delivery.

On Thursday enforcement officials fined the Costco on McGillivary Boulevard $5,000 for selling non-essential items.

Under current public health orders the selling of items deemed non-essential is restricted.

Anyone breaching public health orders in Manitoba face fines of $1,296 for individuals and $5,000 for businesses. People improperly wearing masks or not wearing a mask in indoor public places can be fined $298
