Province to pay $2,000 if you get off CERB and go back to work

Manitoba announced on Tuesday June 23, 2020, that they will pay you up to $2,000 if you go back to work and stop collecting CERB or CESB from the federal government.

The Manitoba Job Restart Program will provide direct payment of $500 to employees who actively return to work for a minimum of 30 hours per week. Every two week thereafter employees have to certify that they are continuing to work at least 30 hours per week to receive bi-weekly payments of $500.

There is a catch though. In order to qualify you must also voluntarily stop receiving the CERB or CESB or other similar COVID-19 related support from the federal government. You also must follow all Manitoba’s health guidelines in the workplace and be a permanent resident of Manitoba who is entitled to work in Canada.

“CERB has become a barrier preventing some from returning to work,” said Premier Brian Pallister. “The Manitoba Job Restart program could help bring tens of thousands of Manitobans back to work safely and help our economy recover.”

The program will be funded entirely by the province.

Applications will be accepted until July 31, 2020, beginning on June 26th.
