Province to open 258 additional personal care home beds

On Friday, September 8, 2017, the province announced that they will be adding an additional 258 personal care home (PCH) beds in Winnipeg, Steinbach and Carman.

The three areas receiving the beds are in areas that capacity is most needed after a needs analysis was conducted. Winnipeg will see capacity grow by 108 new beds at a new facility known as the Bridgwater Personal Care Home. In Steinbach 140 new beds will be added by expanding Rest Haven Personal Care Home and Boyne Lodge in Carman will be adding 10 beds as well as replacing 70 beds. Boyne Lodge will aslo be ading up to 30 transitional care beds.

The province has committed to increasing the amount of PCH beds by 1200 across the province with an investment of $133,000 per bed.

The minister noted that the expansion of Holy Family Personal Care Home is currently underway and  is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
