After announcing on July 1, 2020 that the province had lost confidence in the Rivers Dam after it faced unprecedented flows due to heavy rain they have now reversed that position and say the dam is safe.
Infrastructure Minister Ron Schuler said on Monday July 13, 2020 that investigations onsite at the dam using probes and water level monitoring below the spillway show no substantial damage.

The minister said the province has now regained confidence in the structure.
“We thank the people who evacuated for their understanding and we are pleased to report they can now return home,” said Schuler. “The engineering assessment based on current conditions shows no substantial amount of damage to the dam from record flows over the past two weeks.”
The province says that the dam will continue to be monitored 24 hours per day until water levels recede further.
