Province Earmarks $9.1 Million in Perimeter Highway Repairs

The Manitoba government is investing $9.1 million to repair the Perimeter Highway, announced Lisa Naylor, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure today.

The Perimeter Highway, a vital route for Winnipeg residents and those entering the city from surrounding areas, has been plagued by potholes and other damage. “We are taking action to make the drive easier,” said Naylor. “Unlike the previous government who cut funding to roads and highways, we’re investing in infrastructure across Manitoba to create jobs, help make it easier for families to get around and support vital trade corridors.”

The $9.1 million will be used to improve driving conditions on the Perimeter Highway, with repairs commencing this month. The focus will be on the most uneven sections of the highway, including:

  • North Perimeter eastbound lanes between Brookside Boulevard and McPhillips Street
  • South Perimeter westbound between Fermor Avenue and Lagimodiere Boulevard, including the southeast loop and ramp
  • North Perimeter at the Trans-Canada Highway east overpass, including loops and ramps
  • South Perimeter at the Trans-Canada Highway west overpass, including loops and ramps
  • Westbound lanes approaching the intersection of Provincial Trunk Highway (PTH) 100 and PTH 3 (McGillivray Boulevard)
  • South Perimeter at Roblin Boulevard overpass, including loops and ramps
  • Intersection improvements at South Perimeter and Provincial Road 330
  • Concrete repairs between Wenzel Road and Dugald Road, and from the Trans-Canada Highway west to Road 63N

In addition to these repairs, construction continues for the St. Mary’s Road and PTH 100 Interchange project, which is expected to open to traffic later this year. The PTH 3 (McGillivray Boulevard) and PTH 100 interchange project is currently in design, with the construction contract expected to be awarded in early 2025.

The 2024 Budget includes a $500-million investment in capital funding to repair and rebuild Manitoba’s highways and public infrastructure, aiming to spur economic development and improve transportation across the province.
