For the second time since the rail line to Churchill was washed out the Province of Manitoba will be covering the extra costs associated with shipping nearly 3 million litres of propane to the northern community.
“As we did last year, the government has agreed to fund the extra costs of moving nearly three million litres of propane by sea to ensure an adequate supply of heating fuel for the people of Churchill this winter,” said Infrastructure Minister Ron Schuler.
The provincial contribution does not cover the cost of the fuel itself but rather the increased costs associated with shipping via sealift.
Although the Hudson Bay Railway was recently purchased by a group of first nations, communities and private businesses it is unclear when repairs to the line will be completed.
