Province Commits $1.5 Billion to Infrastructure Spending

The provincial government announced plans to spend roughly $500 million a year in each of the next three years to fix and build on Manitoba’s infrastructure.

Much of the money is earmarked for highways, with improvements to bridges and water-control structures also planned.

Initiatives include plans to upgrade provincial highway networks to allow heavier loads so they will support more commercial traffic and add to the grid of strategic routes that includes Manitoba’s all-weather provincial road network.

Winnipeg’s Perimeter Highway is also set to benefit.  The province plans to continue building towards upgrading it to a full access-controlled freeway standard.  Parts of the initiative include the construction of a new interchange at the Perimeter Highway and St. Mary’s Road, and the design and initial phases of a second new interchange at the perimeter and McGillivray Boulevard.
