Province and RCMP release COVID-19 enforcement statistics

Manitoba and the RCMP both issued updates on the number of public health order tickets and warnings that have been issued as some Manitobans continue to ignore COVID-19 regulations.

Since April the province says that 307 warnings have been issued and 200 tickets have been issued to individuals and businesses.

Health and government officials have been asking people to comply with health orders in order to reduce the number of cases in the province but some scofflaws and conspiracy theorists are actively working against that effort.

Over the weekend a ‘Hugs not Masks’ protest in Steinbach saw approximately 100 people ignoring mask, gathering size and physical distancing requirements. Although at least one person who spoke at the event was ticketed the premier has said that others in attendance will be receiving tickets in the mail for their participation based on their vehicle being seen at the site of the protest.

Fines for individuals are $1,290 per offence while businesses are ticketed $5,000 per offence.

Since the beginning of November a number of tickets have been issued to individuals for attending gatherings larger than permitted, six tickets for failing to isolate as required and two tickets for travelling to the north.

RCMP say that between November 2 and 13 they received 253 calls related to COVID-19.

Officers issued 42 verbal warnings and ticketed eight people for failing to comply with a Provincial Emergency Order, under the Public Health Act.

Enforcement officers ticketed a number of Manitoba businesses since the beginning of November for violating public health orders including

November 2 – Bar Italia – operating with seven patrons on the outdoor patio, Pembina Hotel and Pony Coral (Pembina Hwy). – failure to ensure patrons vacate by 11 p.m
