12 ‘Johns’ busted in Project Return sweep

Winnipeg Police have arrested 12 men aged 19 – 52 for Obtaining Sexual Services for Consideration during Project Return this past weekend.

Project Return is a partnership between police and outreach workers from the community (StreetReach, Winnipeg Outreach Network (WON), All Nations Coordinated Response (ANCR), Ndinawe, Mama Wi Chi Itata, Resource Assistance for Youth (RAY) and the Bear Clan Patrol Inc.). The project aims to protect youth in the city who are at high risk of being sexually exploited as well as finding youth who have been reported missing.

57 locations known to be where high risk missing youth tend to hang out were checked. Five youth reported missing were located and taken to safety.

Project members handed out 67 harm reduction kits during the weekend and made 78 contacts to identify and help those involved in sexual exploitation.

When the project started on Friday September 20, 2019 police say there were 38 youth (under 18) who had been report and were still missing.

On average there are 600 reports of missing people filled with Winnipeg Police each month.
