PREMIER RESPONDS TO SHOOTING AT MOSQUE IN QUEBEC

 

 

Several dead, multiple people injured in mosque attack

 

 

 

 

 

 

STATEMENT OF PREMIER BRIAN PALLISTER


“Like all Canadians, I am shocked and saddened by the shooting earlier this evening at a mosque in Sainte-Foy, Quebec.

On behalf of all Manitobans, I extend my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims and to the entire community mourning with them.

Canada is a nation of diversity, tolerance and respect.  It is my enduring hope that, in the aftermath of this senseless attack, Canadians are reminded of the importance of upholding these values each and every day.”

 

Police in Quebec City have confirmed that six people have died after shots were fired inside a mosque just after 8:00pm eastern time.

Several dozen People were gathered in the mosque in the Sainte-Foy neighbourhood for evening prayers when the shooting began.

It is known that in addition to those killed in the attack eight people were also wounded but the extent of those injuries have not been released.

Quebec police have two suspects in custody.

Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have both described the shootings as an act of terrorism.
