RCMP in Portage la Prairie began receiving calls from motorists around 4:30 am Saturday morning October 7, 2017 after someone placed dozens of barricades across the eastbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway.
Police responded to the call and found that a number of traffic barricades from a construction zone in the westbound lanes had been moved into the eastbound lanes effectively closing the highway in both directions.
Traffic was backed up more than 500 metres before police had the barricades removed.

The Mounties are continuing to investigate this incident.
