RCMP in Portage la Prairie began receiving calls from motorists around 4:30 am Saturday morning October 7, 2017 after someone placed dozens of barricades across the eastbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway.
Police responded to the call and found that a number of traffic barricades from a construction zone in the westbound lanes had been moved into the eastbound lanes effectively closing the highway in both directions.
Traffic was backed up more than 500 metres before police had the barricades removed.
Someone’s idea of a practical joke had the potential to cause a serious or even fatal collision. The consequences can be quite severe to those who commit these acts as they can be held accountable for their actions.
RCMP would like to catch the culprits and are asking anyone who may have information that can help them to call 204-857-4445 or call Manitoba Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477, submit a secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com or text “TIPMAN” plus your message to CRIMES (274637).
