Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of Sargent Avenue and Kennedy Street around 8:45 am Friday after receiving reports that a male having a mental health crisis could possibly be armed.

Schools and daycares in the area were placed on hold and secure as a precaution and police took to social media to ask the public to avoid the area.

Police say that they did not believe the public was in any danger but they had to take precautions.

Police cordoned off a large area around the building restricting vehicle and foot traffic in the area. A Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Rescue crew and an ambulance were also staged nearby as a precaution.
After about six hours the situation was resolved and the male was taken to hospital for treatment.
