Winnipeg City Council has agreed to add a question to the ballot during the civic election in October asking voters if the intersection at Portage and main should be opened to pedestrians.
It will be a simple yes or no question but there is a catch… the city is not bound by the outcome!
The idea of letting Winnipeg voters have a say on the controversial intersection was first proposed by North Kildonan councillor Jeff Browaty last month.
Today city council voted, almost unanimously, in favour of the plebiscite. The lone dissenter was councillor Jenny Gerbasi.
Winnipeg goes to the polls on October 24, 2018.
