RCMP and the Office of the Fire Commissioner are investigating after a fire gutted a Portage la Prairie multi-unit two-storey house on 3rd Street NW early Tuesday morning.
Firefighters and police responded to the fire around 3:10 am the structure was fully involved. Smoke and flames billowed from the structure as firefighters spent close to three hours battling the blaze before it was declared under control.
The occupant of the building were able to get out before emergency crews arrived on the scene.
Police say that the initial investigation indicates that the porch was where the fire had started. Prior to the fire a large amount of garbage had been on the porch. Investigators believe that the fire is suspicious.
