RCMP charge Portage la Prairie liquor store robbers

In a robbery that has become commonplace in Winnipeg Liquor Marts, six people walked into a Portage la Prairie liquor store and began stealing items.

RCMP say the robbery took place just before 6:00 pm on Thursday, November 7, 2019. The group of thieves entered the Liquor mart wearing Halloween masks then filled backpacks with dozens of bottles of alcohol.

Witnesses were able to get the license plate number from a white pickup truck the brazen criminals used to flee the area.

RCMP alerted other police agencies then began a search for the truck.

A Manitoba First Nations Police Service officer spotted the fleeing pickup and was able to make a traffic stop just north of Portage la Prairie.

“We recognize that the increase of liquor store thefts is concerning to the public and we want to assure Manitobans that our officers will continue to rapidly respond and to lay charges against those responsible,”  said Sgt. Paul Manaigre of the Manitoba RCMP.

Four adults and two youth were arrested. Inside the truck, officers found more than 40 bottles of alcohol along with Halloween masks.

All six suspects are facing charges of Disguise with intent to commit an offence and Theft under $5000 for their alleged involvement.
